Back as a young boy my favorite movie was an VHS tape, Davy Crockett: King of the Wild Frontier. The movie binds the famous television series by Disney staring Fess Parker as Crockett.
It was my greatest aspiration to become like Crockett, a trapper and hunter. However, as I grew up things changed. My desire to hunt has waned. The urge to skin animal pelts vanished after watching a friend do it, (it’s really smelly work). Despite all these changes, my respect for Col. Davy Crockett has not changed.
“I’m Davy Crockett, fresh from the backwoods. I’m half horse, half alligator, and a little touch of snappin’ turtle. I got the fastest horse, the prettiest sister, the surest rifle, and the ugliest dog in Tennessee. My brother can lick any man in Kentucky, and I can lick my brother.”
– Davy Crockett – Crockett Goes to Congress (1955)
This quote has stuck in my mind since childhood, leaving me with a smile every time I think about it. Since I needed something lighthearted for my catchphrase this week (my posts have seemed too heavy lately), it made me think of this.
So this week, I’m half salesman, half philosopher, and a little touch of farmer.
There is no denying that my position in life is a unique one. I am a salesman, I fancy myself a philosopher most times, and I’ve got a touch of farmer to give a little extra character to my personality.
